Charles Buddy Maxwell, 82, of Murphysboro, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, with loved ones present. Buddy was born to the late John and Verna (Sackman) Maxwell on January 12, 1942, in Bluff City, IL. He attended grade school in Browning, IL, and graduated from Rushville High School in 1960. After high school, he worked at the Sunshine Store in Astoria, IL. In 1964, he entered service in the United States Army, where he served as a meteorologist until being honorably discharged in 1969. He married Pat Davis on August 16, 1968, in Rushville, IL who passed away on January 25, 1990. Buddy went on to work as a foreman/"pit boss" at Amax Coal, and after moving to Southern Illinois, Buddy served in the role of Superintendent of Reclamation at Arch Coal until his retirement. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fritz; his wife; stepdaughter Julie Simpson; two brothers-in-law, Dick Davis and Ronnie Greer; and a sister-in-law, Marna Davis.
